This is a special time in our nation with our candidates running to become President and Vice President. Much has been said about the candidates and their family histories. Each of them has a story, their own special story. Each of you has your own story, and I have mine.
Some people have experienced pain and suffering just as some of the children you teach are now experiencing it in their homes. We can’t always do anything about the past, but together, we can influence the future. The important thing is to not be a victim of the past, but instead to remember the past, live in the present, and plan for the future. Every day is a chance for a new beginning.
Have an awesome day and a wonderful week-end. You are a difference maker.

“We remember.”
On this special day in the history of the United States, we remember 9/11. I vividly remember where I was when I heard about the attack on our land. You may remember exactly what you were doing too. It was a horrific day. Innocent lives were lost as terrorists sought to destroy us. They battered our people, but they did not batter our spirit. That is because we are a strong nation. We are a nation that believes in freedom and liberty for all!! We are one nation, under God, indivisible, with freedom and liberty for all. We are the United States of America! God bless America, home of the free, and land of the brave.
And on this special day remembering 9/11, may God bless you in your special work making a difference as you serve our country, reaching and teaching students—the future of America. You are a difference maker.

“When is it too much?”
Children have so much more going on in their lives today. They have after school lessons in swimming, skating, and ballet. They have computers and cell phones that take up their time. They also have television. It made me think, “When is it too much?” A little ice cream for a nighttime snack can be great, but a gallon every night, can be harmful.
The news reports that children are spending a lot of time on homework. One parent said that her child stayed up until midnight doing homework. For some of you, it is a struggle grading all that homework. I’m curious to know what you think about children having homework, so I have posted a new survey at our website, http://www.atiseminars.org/. Please visit the site and make your voice heard.
Have an awesome day as you reach and teach children, the future of our world.

“Props work where words may fail.”
I was with my son Marty speaking at a conference this summer. After we spoke, we had a booth with an exhibit. Our company sells “large ears,” and we had them in our exhibit booth. Many people came by and told us how much they like our “ears,” and how successful it is to use this prop in their classrooms. These ears have multiple purposes. Some teachers use them as “tattle ears” and have them on a wall. Children go to the “ear” and tell their tattles to the ear. Some teachers hold them up to their class as reminders for students to stop talking and listen. They work! Props work! Props work where words may fail. Children love them. Be imaginative in thinking of fun props to help your students get the point of what you want to say.
I have included a picture of two teachers attending a national conference having fun with the “ears” at our ATI exhibit booth.
Have an awesome wonderful day. You are a difference maker.

“A time for new beginnings”
Today I am thinking of all the children across the country and the world who are in the process of returning to school. They and their parents bring with them hopes and dreams for the new school year. Here are some of the hopes I have heard from parents:
“I hope his teacher likes him.”
“I hope he doesn’t get into trouble again this year.”
“I hope she has lots of friends.”
“I hope she doesn’t hang out with the wrong crowd.”
“I hope he does well.”
You too have hopes for a great school year. This is a time for new beginnings, and a time for setting goals, goals to have the best school year ever. My son, Marty and I, along with our company, Appelbaum Training Institute, have set a goal too. It is to do our best to help you in the important work you do. Have an awesome day and a wonderful school year. You are a difference maker.
